CONSIDERING LASER SURGERY
A lot of people who wear very thick specs often ask about lasik. It is a good option for people who are very myopic (nearsighted) however, as with any procedure, there are no guarantees. To be a good candidate for lasik, your prescription should be stable (not getting worse), your cornea should be thick enough (this is checked by the ophthalmologist before the surgery) and you should not have conditions that affect wound healing such as Diabetes.
The procedure is usually done on myopic people, and it involves making their corneas flatter. Other conditions such as farsightedness and Presbyopia cannot be corrected using lasik. Lasik is not a permanent solution to wearing specs because nearly everyone will need reading glasses to see up close because of Presbyopia, an age-related condition that has nothing to do with nearsightedness.
