“I can see, so my eyes are fine, right?”
We often use our vision to judge the health of our eyes, incorrectly assuming everything is okay just because we can see. A lot of South Africans believe what happens at the licensing department is an eye test, and therefore assume all is well when they “pass”. What they do there is just a measurement of vision, they don’t examine anything.
Vision is only one aspect of eye health, a lot of sight threatening conditions don’t affect your vision until it’s too late, conditions like Glaucoma, Diabetes, Hypertension, and some cancers. This is why you should have an annual eye exam, to make sure nothing goes unnoticed. A headache is another sign that the eyes are struggling, even when the vision is clear, it may indicate a muscle misalignment.
Getting regular exams will ensure that you’re always on top of things so to speak.
