Most of us spend time in front of a computer, regardless of what profession we’re in, even more so now that a lot of people are working remotely. Prolonged computer use can harm your eyes and even lead to poor vision. The most common result of prolonged computer use is Myopia (nearsightedness). Computer usage can make certain condition such as dry eye syndrome, even worse. Eye strain due to prolonged blue light exposure is also a problem. Below are a few pointers on how to reduce the effect of computer screens on your eye health.
Get Computer Specs
Get your eyes checked, to see if you have conditions such as astigmatism, and farsightedness, which can contribute to eyestrain and headaches when you’re working on the computer, without blurring your vision much. The specs will help relieve the pressure on the eyes, resulting in better efficiency and more comfort. The lenses should ideally have blue cutting coating.
Sitting Properly
Not only does sitting properly at your desk enable you to be more efficient, it also helps reduce back and neck pain.
Take Regular Breaks
Taking a break to view a far away object allows your eye muscles to relax and improve their flexibility. Our blink rate drops significantly when working in front of the computer, which makes our eyes dry and sore, blinking often goes a long way in alleviating this.
Switch Off
It goes without saying that reducing the amount of time you spend in front of the computer is a good thing.
